Maggie Blackwell is an accomplished artist specializing in vibrant chalk pastels.

Maggie is passionate about the heritage of the Rural West. She translates this passion into energetic interpretations of the Old West’s charms: rusted oil field machinery, old ranches, expansive landscapes, and insightful vignettes of this way of life.

She is a brilliant colorist with a masterful eye for detail who creates rich full-bodied images. Her palette captures the tones, resonances and elusive light of the West. Her whimsical titles reflect the “twinkle in the eye” humor of a seasoned ranch hand.

Maggie skillfully manipulates the “flow and the float” of her technique to distill the light and form of her wide variety of subjects. Each viewer is drawn into these images to contemplate both the real and the abstract forms that emerge from her paintings.  Viewers are engaged by her spirited interpretations, full realistic yet ethereal images.

Maggie is a classically trained painter who has been winning awards for her artwork from an early age. She has exhibited in fine art galleries in Monterey and Carmel. Her paintings are hanging in corporate and private collections both here and abroad. Maggie maintains a hectic schedule with extensive gallery commitments and at least two solo shows each year.

Maggie is a fourth generation Californian who resides in Taft.
